THIS PARED-BACK MODERN COROMANDEL BEACH HOUSE IN THE COASTAL SETTLEMENT OF MATARANGI ENJOYS A VISTA THROUGH PINE TREES TO EXPANSIVE SEA VIEWS.

This modern coastal home is a refined response to its beachside setting, combining natural materials, a restrained palette and a strong connection to the landscape. Clad in vertical black-stained pine, the home’s envelope features recessed glazed walls that provide natural weathering and visual depth. The vertical rhythm of the cladding subtly mirrors the surrounding pine trees, anchoring the building to its forested coastal site.

The layout is single-level, with a raised viewing tower housing the main bedroom suite. From this elevated perch, the owners enjoy sweeping views of the ocean, while the rest of the house opens east to the beach and west to a sheltered courtyard—ideal for outdoor entertaining and relaxed family living.

Internally, the home features polished concrete floors, white-lined ceilings clad in timber and a simple, open-plan kitchen, dining and living space. These living areas extend to a large timber deck facing the ocean and to a paved terrace and courtyard at the rear, promoting strong indoor-outdoor flow.

A favourite space is the snug—a cosy reading nook lined with banquette seating that also serves as a guest sleeping area. The house includes three additional bedrooms and a flexible bunk room, making it ideal for family holidays and weekend retreats.
